What Is an Acne Scar?
To comprehend the origin and cause of an acne scar, it is necessary to understand what acne is. Acne is a skin disease that can be classified into 4 stages. During stage 1 the person only has a few small pimples. This contrasts stage 4 where the affected areas are filled with pimples.
Even though suffering from acne is not dangerous for health, the size and frequency in the appearance of pimples can permanently injure the skin. Indeed, when an acne pimple disappears, it leaves a hole behind it, therefore a wound that the body must repair. The greater its depth and severity, the greater the chance of permanent scarring. The latter may have a great influence on the self-esteem of people who suffer from it.
Our Approach
Our Approach
We are one of the only clinics in Canada that can treat various types of acne scars. For those who are looking for a permanent solution, you have to use the right means to treat these scars. Purely aesthetic treatments and creams will not be of any use. Acne scars are a skin problem that occurs during the healing of a wound. It’s the same principle as when you injure yourself—the body does not always do things well. Its only objective is to close the wound as quickly as possible, without worrying about its appearance.
It is important to analyze each scar in order to create a customized treatment plan. You can find several types of scars on the same face. It is often necessary to combine several techniques and/or technologies in order to obtain the best results. Some scars will need to be detached from the skin before being treated. Others, much deeper, will require that they are worked on at a depth of more than 5 mm into the skin.
The techniques or technologies used are generally these: minor surgery, chemical peeling on large or small areas, laser resurfacing, resurfacing by micro-referral, resurfacing by deep micro-referral by energy, resurfacing by fractionation by radio frequency, use of platelet-rich plasma as a regenerator when using a technique and many more.
The most used method in our clinic is surgical subcision. It consists of dislodging and cutting the fibers which attach the scars and helps break the ties that hold acne scars. The approach and the steps we undertake are tailored to each individual. The results obtained are permanent and for life.
